The Classical:NEXT is awarding an innovation award every year. In 2018 the award shall be given to the most outstanding project with orchestras or large ensembles involved.

A longlist has been published the other day: On that list are 28 projects that have been chosen by 23 experts from around the globe. Actually, the experts have named their personal favorites for the award. Among them are well known projects like the Aurora Ensemble – playing by memory – or the Chineke! Orchestra around double-bass player Chi-chi Nwanoku.

But although the longlist is clearly at random it is nevertheless interesting to read through. And if it is only to understand how divers the orchestral scene has become in recent years. And hear f.e. example about The Carbon Free Lahti Symphony Orchestra with its initiative to become an environmentally responsible artistic organization by adopting carbon neutrality as one of its operational objectives. Or discover Nomadmusic’s Nomadplay-app: A digital tool to experiment the thrill of playing with an orchestra in your living room.

The jury will decide about the shortlist later. And it will be up to the delegates of the conference to finally elect the winner.
